Are you wondering if a baby sleep coach can help your baby sleep more? Each week we feature a mama & baby who, after sleep training with the Baby Sleep Trainer are thriving with more sleep and less stress!

Cara Verb, mother to Eliana Marie, sleep trained with me when baby was 17 months old. Here is their story…..

I finally decided to bite the bullet and sleep train because ….

You could see she was trying to fall asleep on her own but she just couldn’t figure it out.  My husband and I were walking around like zombies and knew things could not continue on this way.

My biggest worry about sleep training was….

That I would somehow be doing long term psychological damage to her.

Before sleep training my baby slept…

Horribly. She would only nap if we took her for a drive and at night she would wake up at least once a night for at least an hour or two at a time.

After sleep training my baby sleeps…

Like a dream.  She will nap for at least an hour or two every day.  She goes to bed at 7:30pm and sleeps until at least 7am.

The actual sleep training itself was…

Harder on me than her.  The first night I put her in her crib and had to walk away while she cried.  As mother it goes against all of your natural instincts to hear your baby cry and not do anything to comfort her.  However, in less than 20 minutes she was fast asleep.  The most important thing for Eliana was making the routine and continuing with it every night.  Now she knows exactly what to expect, which seems to comforting to her.

Did your attachment with your baby change after sleep training?

Not at all.  If anything I feel like it made me a better mother because I wasn’t always so tired and we when we play I can engage much more than before.

Do you think sleep training is healthy for baby, you, and your family?

YES!!!  It was unhealthy for all of us to be sleeping as little as we were for as long as we were.

(Picture yourself telling a close girlfriend) Sleep training is…

The smartest thing that I have done for Eliana.

How would you respond to hearing, “Sleep training is selfish”?

It almost seems selfish not to sleep train.  Eliana needed to learn how to fall asleep on her own so that she wouldn’t have horrible sleeping habits for the rest of her life.

How many nights did it take for baby’s nighttime sleep to improve and how many nights did it take for baby’s naps to improve?

After two nights Eliana was sleeping through the night and after 4 days she was napping in her crib for at least an hour at a time.

If your child is now older than 4 years old, did sleep training improve your child’s quality of life?

She is only 2 but it definitely improved her quality of life.  Because she wasn’t getting enough sleep she was always tired and cranky.  She is a much happier baby since we sleep trained.

Would you recommend BST to a friend and if so, who and why?

Without a hesitation YES!!!  I would recommend it to anyone who has a baby with any sleep issues, napping or through the night.  It is amazing how well it worked and continues to work.  Just one example of how amazing BST is is when Eliana was teething before BST I would be up all night long rocking and trying to comfort her back to sleep.  After BST her back molars came in and she only woke up once cried for less than a minute and put herself back to sleep.  I have no doubts that if we had not done BST she and I would have been up all night long again.
