Trying to get baby to sleep can be a traumatic experience for both mama, papa and baby! Welcome the the Baby Sleep Trainer success stories, where we share stories from the baby sleep frontline. This week we caught up with Erika James, who sleep trained her little bundle, Aricelli, at 9 months old. Read their story here!

I finally decided to bite the bullet and sleep train because….

I wanted her to be able to sleep by herself with no help.

My biggest worry about sleep training was….

If my husband would understand the process and be okay with it.

Before sleep training my baby slept….

Pretty good but then we unswaddled and 20 minute naps started.

After sleep training my baby sleeps….

Great! 1-2 hour naps. And “all” Night!

The sleep training process itself was….

Not super bad. I kept thinking about the big picture. For Aricelli to be able fall asleep and go back to sleep with no help.

Did your attachment with your baby change in a positive or a negative way after sleep training?

Nope! She’s still as happy as can be!

Do you feel like sleep training was a healthy choice for baby, you, and your family?

Yes!

How would you respond to hearing, “Sleep training is selfish”?

Don’t you sleep better by yourself in your bed? Your baby is the same way! Maybe you are being selfish because YOU want to sleep with your baby more than your baby wants to sleep with you!

How many nights did it take for baby’s nighttime sleep to improve and how many nights did it take for baby’s naps to improve?

In 2-3 days I started seeing changes. I could hear her wake up and put herself back.

Would you recommend BST to a friend and if so, who and why?

If the family is ready then yes! There is a sense of peace knowing baby is asleep and can sleep for a while with no help.
